THE SECRET HEART OF EVERY JEW
By Aviva Mendelsohn
She walked down the streetWith fear in her eyes,
What was in her heart
She would have to disguise.
If she let someone knew
How often she wept,
They would find out
The secret she’s kept.
She was a Jew
Deep down inside,
But that secret
She had to hide.
In 1948
She was finally free,
To live her own life
In her own country.
The pain she had felt
Will not fade away,
Forever in her heart
Her memories will stay.
