Why do I write G-d
Regularly I am asked why I write the name of the Almighty as G-d leaving out the middle letter. This is actually a very complex issue and is related to the issue of the respect for the written name of G-d. In Jewish tradition the name of G-d is never removed if written. The Rabbis of old would never write the name of G-d on the Sepha Torah Scroll without first going to the Mikvah (ritual bath) and purifying themselves first. I have studied and worked in t...he Jewish world for much of my life. I went to Yeshiva (Jewish Seminary) and very much have Ultra Orthodox Jewish ways ingrained in me. In Ivrit (modern Israeli Hebrew) the name for G-d is simply Ha Shem which simply means The Name. So the Name of G-d is so holy and so revered that every time I write it I am indeed in reverence and wonder of the name. So I hope you will be to.
